Here at The Kakawa Pod we talk about all things cacao, cocoa, and chocolate.
Now you might be wondering, where on earth did we come up with such a strange-sounding name? What is a ‘kakawa’?
Well, we can’t say for certain because we’re living in the 21st century, but according to some sources, one of the more original pronunciations to refer to this strange bean was ‘kakawa’, a Proto-Mixe–Zoquean word that was eventually reconstructed over the years to become the Nahuatl word cacauatl, which was what the Spanish heard the Aztecs using and what eventually led to the Spanish calling the think ‘cacao’.
So, in short, our name means cacao, just an older version that refers to the same thing.
